Frequently asked questions
Licensing, packages, trial mode, activation, purchasing and support — the answers most people look for before they buy.
Licensing & packages
What does a license include?
Every MergenHub module is enabled in every package: 11 drivers (Modbus, Siemens S7, OMRON, DNP3, IEC 104, IEC 61850, MQTT, OPC UA client and a simulator), the OPC UA server with unlimited clients, the REST API, Web SCADA/HMI, alarms, the historian, the Data Bridge (IoT gateway), virtual (advanced) tags and the MCP AI assistant.
Packages differ only by the number of tags a project may contain; there is no module, driver or client limit and nothing is a paid add-on.
What is the difference between the packages?
Packages differ only by their tag limit: Starter 1,000, Standard 5,000, Professional 25,000, Corporate 50,000 and Enterprise unlimited. Every package includes the full feature set.
What is a tag and how is it counted?
A tag is one data point read from a device (e.g. one flow meter reading). The count is the total static tags in the project (channels › devices › tags, including groups). Virtual tags, system tags, aliases and SCADA screens do not count.
What happens if I reach the tag limit?
When the limit is reached the API reports the limit and the current count. You upgrade the package in the portal; the new limit arrives at the next license refresh (within a few days, or instantly via a manual update check). No reinstall is needed.
Trial & activation
How does trial (demo) mode work?
An installation without a license runs in trial mode: all features are enabled and there is no tag limit. Only the runtime (scan engine) runs for 2 hours after each start; when the window expires scanning stops and tag quality becomes Bad.
For a new 2-hour window use the top-bar button, the tray menu's 'Restart runtime', or restart the service. Entering a license key lifts the limit instantly; no reinstall or restart is needed.
Perpetual license vs annual subscription — what is the difference?
A perpetual license is paid once and is valid for life; it never expires. An annual subscription is billed yearly and has an end date; you renew it in the portal. After a subscription expires there is a 30-day read-only grace period (data keeps flowing, configuration is locked), then it falls back to trial mode.
Online vs offline activation — what is the difference?
Online: paste the key under Settings › License and click Activate; the application contacts the portal and stores a signed license document locally.
Offline (no internet on the server): under Settings › License › Offline activation you create a request file (.mhreq), upload it in the customer portal from any internet PC, download the license document (.mhlic) and import it in MergenHub.
Can I move a license to another machine?
Yes. A license is valid on one machine at a time. To move it online, Settings › License › Release frees the key immediately and you activate it on the new machine. Offline, a signed proof file (.mhrel) is produced. If the machine crashed, use 'Force release' in the customer portal; the old activation is blacklisted.
Can I run several installations from one license?
No. One license = one machine. Buy one license per server; dealers get volume discounts.
Purchasing, payment & dealers
Which payment methods do you accept?
Bank transfer/EFT, online card payment and, for dealers, an open account (30-day terms). With a transfer the IBAN is shown after the order and the license is issued once payment is confirmed. Online card payment issues the license instantly (when enabled by the admin). Open-account orders issue the license and invoice immediately.
How do I buy a license?
Add a package to the cart from the pricing page, sign in and choose a payment method to place the order. The key (in the form MH-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) appears in the customer portal and is e-mailed to you. You can also buy through a dealer.
Do you issue invoices / e-invoices?
Yes. Licenses are issued to your company; the order asks for the company name and tax ID. The invoice is issued when the order is confirmed and can be downloaded from the customer panel.
How do I buy as a dealer?
Approved dealers get volume discounts, open-account terms (30 days) and the ability to issue licenses on behalf of their customers. Fill in the dealer application form; we reply within one business day.
Maintenance, support & refunds
What is Maintenance & Support and what does it cover?
The first year of Maintenance & Support is included with every license. Version upgrades are free for the life of the license — you get every upgrade even without an active maintenance contract. Maintenance only affects whether support requests are answered; your perpetual license never expires when maintenance ends.
How do I renew maintenance or a subscription?
In the customer panel, select the license and add a Maintenance & Support renewal or a subscription renewal to the cart. The renewal is applied to the existing key; the application picks up the new date at the next refresh (import the new document if offline).
What is the refund policy?
The refund window is 2 days from payment. Licenses that have not yet been activated (unused) are refunded automatically; for activated licenses you open a refund request from the panel.
Where is the license document stored?
The license document is stored under C:\ProgramData\MergenHub\license\, bound to the machine's fingerprint; copying it to another machine does not work. The document is refreshed automatically every few days. If the portal is unreachable the license keeps working.
